The time was the fall of 1992. A chase of 611 had to be scrubbed at the last minute. It seemed a huge disappointment at the time. Butr I did have time for a couple of shots, so this time I looked for locations athat were not consideder by me to be easy chase locations-that were not as quick to get out of as the ones I used when setting up along HWY 11. WHat the camera captured that day was the most compelling bit of steam action I have ever recorded, with 611 fighting for every inch of the long climb from downtown. A later shot was done in Trussville. In both cases, the camera is left on longer than usual to record the sounds of 611 in the distance. It appears Goodheart Productions was just down the bridge from me, as similar footage appears in "611 Birmingham Memories"!

While its competitors needed monstrous engines to conquer mountain ranges, the New York Central did not. Its Water Level Route from New York City to Chicago was a nearly level raceway built along rivers and the Lake Erie shoreline, and the Central's main line steam engines were racehorses bred for speed on that route. By the early 1930s, the NYC relied on two locomotives for premier services: the 4-6-4 Hudson for its Great Steel Fleet of passenger trains and the nation's largest stable of 4-8-2s for fast freight. Although the 4-8-2 was labeled a Mountain on any other railroad, that would hardly do on the Water Level Route, so the Central named its engines Mohawks after one of the rivers its rails followed.

Promotional documentary released in 1952 by Marathon Newsreel Production in association with the Budd company. Shows the railcars being manufactured and in operation. Also features many steam and diesel trains from the early 1950's. From en.wikipedia.org The Budd Rail Diesel Car or RDC is a self-propelled diesel-hydraulic multiple unit railcar. In the period 1949--62, 398 RDCs were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The cars were primarily adopted for passenger service in rural areas with low traffic density or in short-haul commuter service, and were less expensive to operate in this context than a traditional locomotive-drawn train. The cars could be used singly or several coupled together in train sets and controlled from the cab of the front unit. The RDC was one of the few versions of the DMU-type train diesel multiple unit to achieve commercial success in North America. The basic car was adapted from a standard 85 ft (25.91 m) coach. They were powered by two Detroit Diesel (then a division of General Motors) Series 110 diesel engines, each of which drives an axle through a hydraulic torque converter, a technology adapted from military tanks of World War II. RDC trains were an early example of self-contained diesel multiple units, an arrangement now in common use by railways all over the world.

Railfanning My HO Scale Layout During the Steam Era!

In this video we are going to be Railfanning my HO Scale Layout, during the Reading Railroad Steam Era. The setting could be anywhere from 1945 to 1957 when the Reading Company owned and operated their T1 4-8-4 Northerns. In 1945 the Reading built their first T1 2100 and put her into operating service on September 11, 1945. A total of thirty T1s were built with the last T1 2129 being completed and placed into service on April 22, 1947. Eventually in December 1957 T1 2125 was placed out of service marking the end of Steam on the Reading. However in July 1958 T1s 2108 and 2109 which were in storage at the time, where placed into emergency duty when they traveled to Portland, PA to be used as stationary boilers at the Metropolitan Edison Company. This was the beginning for ideas to start the famous Reading Iron Horse Rambles. Now in this video we will see T1s at work on the main line of my layout starting with T1 2113 pulling a mixed freight. Then we will see my undecorated Reading T1 (soon to be lettered) meet the 2113 and start up a heavy coal train. If you are wondering my layout is no where near being complete, there is a lot of track to be laid and lots of wiring to do. This is why there is no scenery on the layout. When most of that stuff is done I will start ballasting and then start scenery. How to curl your hair with a Solia flat iron

I used my brand new Solia 1-1/4" flat iron to curl my hair. I think it works better than a curling iron, and it's probably better for your hair too. If you're trying to decide on a new flat iron, i've tried the Chi, Sedu, and Solia. Absolutely don't get the Chi, it's a waste of money and fries your hair BAD! Between the Sedu and Solia, they actually both straightened my naturally curly hair the same. And I live in humid Louisiana, so, for the money get the Solia! It's only $88 as opposed to the Sedu for $140. I promise the Solia is just as good..Supposedly, Sedu is only expensive because it has celebrity endorsements. Then the train that's dropping off his twin sister passes by but she doesn't gett off. Sh's going to bring them back to the world of the living when the train goes back to pick up more souls. Basically they hijack the train. The steam town means the living world. "Them" is the rich people in that town that ordered them to be killed. The Sand Scraper is the border between the living and the dead. So now they re in the world of the living and theyre taking away the poeple on the train's souls so they might feel the pain they did, but they are still unhappy. Antique Abenaque 15hp hit-and-miss engine at Zagray Farm show

This was just one of many awesome antique engines on display at the Zagray Farm Fall Festival. This one was by far the largest antique engine I saw there. It's a 15hp model Built by Abenaque Machine Works, Westminster Station, Vt. The gentleman that owned it said it was used to pressurize a steam powered engine in the mornings at the mill his Grandfather worked at until the steam engine got hot and could run on it's own. This engine (and the smaller Abenaque next to it) was pulled out of the old mill in the late 1970's with a crane and restored by his father, who brought it to shows in the 1980's until the engine was damaged in a building fire. (that's the reason it only has two water cooling fins instead of the original four). He said this engine was the only piece of iron to come out of the fire in salvageable shape, so a head crack was repaired and the engine was once again brought to running condition and makes the shows in the New England region.
